A toy plane on an Hermès scarf

‘Les Clés De Notre Enfance’, a scarf created between 1991 and 1992, features a seaplane in the top right-hand corner.

Here is the enlargement

This very realistic image was drawn from a photo in David Pressland’s book, The Art of the Tin Toy, New Cavendish Books, London, 1975, page 192.

The toy from the David Pressland Collection

This is a Distler toy produced in Nürnberg in 1932 for the British market.

Lithographed sheet metal, clockwork mechanism.

The central propeller turns and drives the seaplane over the water.

43.5 x 38 cm

Could Johann Distler have imagined that sixty years later one of his childish creations would be adorning elegant women?
