Founded by Karl Arnold in 1906, the company initially produced steam engines and boats. Christian Max Ernst joined the company as managing director in 1935 and gave it a new lease of life. Production came to a complete halt during the war, but then resumed under the management of Max Ernst. In 1995 the company went bankrupt.
