Carette
Nuremberg
1886 – 1917
Georges Carette moved to Nuremberg with the financial support of the Hopf family, friends of his father, and began making toys in 1886. He quickly expanded his business, first as a subcontractor to Bing, then by producing a wide range of tinplate toys: steam engines, automobiles, double-decker omnibuses, trains and accessories, and boats. In 1914, as soon as the First World War broke out, Georges Carette, who had retained his French nationality, had to leave Germany and take refuge in Switzerland. The company closed in 1917.
Carette was the company that brought together French refinement and the great German tradition.
