Louis Marx & Co.
New York
1922 – 1978
In 1922, Louis Marx took over Strauss, Man & Co. in New York and created his own collection of tinplate toys. He bought out a number of competitors, including Girard, in the 1930s, and became one of the world’s largest toy manufacturers – most of his products were sold in Woolworth’s shops.
It also opened a subsidiary in the UK.
In 1972, the company was taken over by Quaker Oats, which owned Fisher Price, and the brand disappeared in 1978.
